Most instructors are already using technology, such as PowerPoint or videos in the classroom. The effective use of technology can raise the quality of class discussion, promote collaborative learning and help to build learning community.

How can you make your classroom more active using technology? Here are some ideas:

1. Add a poll question with a Think-Pair-Share or Peer Instruction Activity

2. Use blogs or Wikis to share the results of group work during the class

3. Using video conference to bring in guest speakers

4. Asking students to prepare multimedia classroom presentations such as YouTube videos, podcasts, open educational resources

5. Engage in an open discussion with a large class using a backchannel and make it easier for students to surface gaps in their understanding

6. Use an open editing platform like a Wiki to have students develop course content.

7. Using online technologies to deliver content as to free up time in the classroom for more active learning.

8. Badging to motivate students in the classroom.
