Practice Midterms and Finals (midterm 1)
Here is where I will put old midterms and finals for you to practice on. These include midterms and finals from math 200/253 (multivariable calculus) and math 317 (vector calculus). As you know math 217 is a combination of those courses. There are a handful of topics which are covered in those courses which are cut from math 217 and so there a few problems here and there on these midterms which you can ignore. I will annotate all of the exams below to let you know which problems are relevant.
First Midterm details:
The first midterm will take place Oct 17th from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Calculators will not be allowed.
Topics for the first midterm:
coordinates, vectors, dot and cross products, lines and planes,
curves, tangents, arc length, sketching surfaces, contour plots
functions of several variables, partial derivatives, higher-order derivatives, equality of mixed partials, tangent planes and linear approximation, chain rule
directional derivatives and the gradient, classification of critical points, maxima and minima, Lagrange multipliers
