BMEG 597 six-credit course for all BMEG MEng students who have chosen the internship option. The course is usually taken from May to August of each year. Exceptions may be allowed subject to prior approval by the course instructor. To enroll in BMEG 597, it is the student's responsibility to find and secure a full-time 16 week internship. The internship can be completed in one of the following three formats:

Hospital Internship
Industry Internship
Research Internship

It is recommended that students start exploring internship opportunities in Winter Term 1 and begin applying to positions in early Winter Term 2.

Once you have secured an internship, you must identify an academic supervisor (for off-site positions). The supervisor must be either a joint, regular, or associate member of the Biomedical Engineering Program and have a PhD (list of approved supervisors). The responsibilities of the academic supervisor are to:

Approve the proposed placement (i.e., certify that the proposed project has sufficient technical and professional content. This approval is granted in writing by the academic supervisor forwarding a copy of the Proposal Memo (see attached) to students@sbme.ubc.ca.
Be available to the student throughout the internship for technical advice.
Attend and mark the student's final oral poster presentation.
Receive and mark the student's technical report, poster, and technical brief.

Please notify students@sbme.ubc.ca when your academic supervisor agrees to work with you. Prior to beginning the internship, students must submit the Proposal Memo to students@sbme.ubc.ca. Once the proposal memo is approved one of our team members will register you in BMEG 597.
