Assignment 3

  • Due No Due Date
  • Points 15

Objective:  Practice what we can learn about KT by “thinking like a marketer.”

Assignment:  Perform ‘Basic Training’ for the development of core story elements for your KT initiative, guided by the scholarship of Jonah Sachs. (15% of final grade due November 21, 2018).

The guidance for the 'Basic Training' is provided in the appendix to chapter 6 of the Sachs book.

Small groups will complete the assignment.  It will  have 3 components.

  1. Write a letter from your hero about her broken world (in order to help you better understand your “US”/constituency, along with the “nightmare” if they stay on sidelines)
  2. Write a dialogue that captures the encounter between the brand hero and the mentor (in order to help you anticipate what is your constituency looking for in order to be convinced to get off the sidelines? This is critical for your story of “now”)
  3. Write a letter from your Hero Remembering the Journey (in order to help you better understand the “dream”, and what it takes to get there).

Students will have the opportunity to present material from their basic training in week 12 to receive class feedback in advance of final submission.

Students will be evaluated according to the comprehensiveness with which they engage with all elements described in the Basic Training, including their ability to describe:

  • the “hero” in their KT initiative
  • what the hero perceives to be “broken” about their world that will motivate them to engage with the KT initiative
  • the character with which your KT initiative will “mentor” your “hero” to engage in the KT activities
  • how the world will change for the better for your “hero” and her community after she engages in the KT initiative.
  • See also the general rubric described in the Approach to Evaluation

This assignment invites students to practice performing the following ASPPH prescribed core MPH competencies:
