Copyright
- Learn about copyright at UBC
- Works in the Public Domain are those whose intellectual property rights have expired, have been forfeited, are inapplicable, or never existed. Every year the number of public domain materials is growing: see Public domain resource, UBC.
- Creative Commons - information found in the Welcome to Online Learning: Digital Literacies course.
Try this H5P interactive element to test your knowledge of Creative Commons licensing. This is presented here to showcase how you can build interactive elements to your Canvas course content.
Image Sources
Check license types before using any images. A 'best practice' would be to provide attributions even if the images are free. Including a URL link to the source of the image is also helpful for someone who may wish to use/reuse the image.

Attribution Tools
When using images, music, video elements in your assignments or digital creations, it is important to maintain a record for attribution and citation. Here are some handy attribution tools to use:
- Creative Commons Search (has the attribution available on individual items you find, see this example of a search about BEARS)
- One-click attribution tool for Wordpress (from Creative Commons)
- Alan Levine's Flickr CC Attribution Helper (additional attribution tools are also posted to this site for more support)
