Synchronous (Live) Meetings

Synchronous live meetings can be useful for connecting with students and sharing ideas in real-time.

Strategies for Conducting Synchronous Meetings

  • Include synchronous meeting dates and times in the Course Schedule section on the Syllabus page so students can access key dates in one location. This will also make it easier for you to update in case of schedule adjustments.
  • Send an Announcement with explicit instructions about live sessions so students are clear about expectations around participation.
  • Make use of the sample Live Meeting page in the ETS starter template and share key information about your expectations with an agenda or key points for discussion.

Thinking about Synchronous and Asynchronous Learning

With the quick pivot to online, many instructors used Zoom or Collaborate Ultra to continue with their teaching. For the subsequent terms, based on student feedback, synchronous sessions were used more deliberately. It is important to consider the objectives and purposes of such learning opportunities.
