Introduction
Welcome to the LDDI Online Showcase!
This Canvas space has been designed with the idea of a showcase in mind. The dictionary definition* of the word showcase is as follows.
Noun
- a glazed case, box, or cabinet for displaying and protecting wares in a store or articles in a museum
- a setting, occasion, or medium for exhibiting something or someone especially in an attractive or favourable aspect
Verb
- to exhibit especially in an attractive or favorable aspects showcase new talent
Similar to non-virtual showcases, this online showcase gives you an opportunity to explore areas of your interest in more detail. The design is intentional not linear, but rather the modules are organized so you can examine the topics of your interests, or simply browse through the Just Samples module. The theory and practice of online and blended course design are provided alongside examples. You are welcome to use the examples or adapt them for your own online or blended course.
Standardized and template-based elements used (such as the Help Resources section at the bottom of the home page, or the syllabus section) for the Faculty of Education's courses have been included throughout the site. By viewing selected examples of course layout and structure, multimedia presentation of learning materials, and the application of educational technologies for learning activities along with explanations and resources, we hope to share ideas and hopefully inspire you to adopt some elements into your courses and teaching practice.
Goals
This section of the introduction is to model clearly defined Learning Outcomes, Objectives or Learning Goals at a course level. Not all courses are designed around outcomes or objectives. Some courses (such as those founded in inquiry-based or based on Indigenous pedagogies) will use guiding questions. By exploring the various areas of this Showcase site you will be able to:
- see examples of how UDL is applied in the design of online/blended courses
- explore the sample media and interactions throughout this site
- consider the supporting information to guide your adaption of some of the ed tech, content presentation or learning activities
- refer to this Showcase site when you are developing or refining your online or blended courses
