Digitally Enabled Learning

Your learning will be supported here in this Canvas course. Here you will find information about writing and communicating your ideas, and some tips on managing your time, how to connect and collaborate while learning, and managing your physical and mental well-being. These strategies are intended to support your learning experience in this course.

Discussions

Discussion with other students can be an important part of learning. Just as you would in a face-to-face classroom, you may be asked to participate in Discussions. These may be synchronous (in real-time during class via web conferencing or online chat) or they may be asynchronous (on your own schedule via discussion posts).

Your course may include a Peer Support Discussion which is for general discussions to ask questions about assignments, post resources, and stay connected. One of the benefits of online learning is the potential to 'crowd-source' information across the course community.

Online Discussions

Your posts in the Discussions should demonstrate careful, thoughtful responses to each prompt. Our goal is to have a meaningful discussion about the topic. Consider these posts to be the participation you would demonstrate in both whole group and small group discussion in the classroom.

Tips

  • Keep posts to under 200 words (or as described in the Discussion instructions) but more than two sentences.
  • Respond to other student's posts. This is a discussion so it is important to share ideas, read others' posts, and reply to these. Be active in the ongoing conversation.
  • Spread your posts out across the discussion time. Think of it as a discussion that occurs over a long time. Say something, then let others respond, and come back in and add to the Discussion.
