Citing & Citation Managers
Citation Guides
UBC Library has online guides to assist you in citing sources in your research, including guides specific to APA style, which is the citation style used most often in Education:
- APA Citation Style Guide - Here you'll find information about when and how to cite in APA Style. This guide includes examples of citations for books & book chapters, journal articles, websites, media, and other information sources.
- How to Cite - A more general citation support guide, which has information applicable across styles, including information about citing data. This can also connect you to the guides for additional citation styles if you are not using APA.
Citation Managers
To assist you in keeping your sources organized and developing references lists, we encourage you to use a citation manager. Citation managers can help you to:
- organize your research all in one place
- avoid plagiarism by tracking your research path
- create in-text citations with the click of a button(s)
- easily format and re-format bibliographies in most major citation styles
Although most citation managers allow you to do the same things, there are features that vary between the different tools. You can learn about the most popular options on the How to Cite guide. For workshops on using citation managers, check out the UBC Library Research Commons.
Your turn!
It works best to select your citation manager before you begin your research in order to ensure that you are tracking and organizing your sources from the very beginning of the process. After reviewing the above materials, select the citation manager you will use for your research. Add your selection to your research planning template. If you were already using a citation manager prior to your work in this module, you can use that as your selection.
