2.5 Sample Canvas course templates

The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT), working with several faculties, has developed templates designed to make the course development process easier for faculty. You may use any of these templates and the homepages can all edited to reflect the unique aspects of your course. Even if you chose not to use one of these templates, you may find it helpful to see examples of how an online course might be structured.

To preview the template, please click the links provided below, and self-enrol into the template course. Each template has a page with instructions on how to download a Canvas course export package (template file) and instructions on how they can import and customize it.

  2. Customize the course menu (Links to an external site.). Hide/disable course navigation items that you do not want students to view.
  3. Replace the template syllabus with your own.
  4. Update internal navigation links in the homepage.
  5. Ensure all the links  work properly. As an instructor you can access the link validator Links to an external site. in Canvas Settings which returns invalid or unresponsive external links.
