  1. Reduce or avoid high-stake synchronous exams. We recommend smaller, more frequent exams (or other assignments) instead of just 1 or 2 high-stakes exams.

  2. Increase non-grade or low-stake self-assessment opportunities and leverage technology to provide effective feedback to students in a timely manner.

  3. Involve students into the assessment process (through self- or peer assessment) to encourage them to become more active in their own learning. Provide students opportunities to use the feedback for improvement.

  4. Consider rubrics to communicate marking criteria, standardize marking and reduce marking workload.

  5. Include opportunities for students to learn about academic integrity in your course. Be clear about your expectations around academic integrity and remind students of these during assessments.
