Download the PDF Teaching Practices That Support Student Wellbeing: A Tool for Educators. Review this tool and consider:

  • Which practices are you already engaging in?
  • From this list, which practices make sense for you, your course, and your students?
  • What are 2-3 practices you might try in your online course? What online tools might you use to support this practice in your online course?

Think about how you might develop a better understanding of who your students are and what unique needs they have or challenges they face. One option is to use a survey during the first week. Danya Glabau, from New York University, has produced and shared a thorough questionnaire Links to an external site. to evaluate student capacity for online learning within a specific class. Another option would be to poll students during a synchronous class lecture (polls are anonymous). Regardless of what method think you will use, consider the following:

  • What questions will you ask students?
  • How might you adapt your course based on their answers?
  • Are there adaptations you won’t consider making to your course?

Spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with Keep Learning. You may wish to copy and paste the text below into your course site so students can easily access this resource.

UBC is an exceptional community doing all we can to support one another. The Keep Learning website (https://keeplearning.ubc.ca/) compiles resources to help you set up, learn effectively online, understand the technologies used at UBC, take care of yourself, answer questions, and get support in this new context. Together we can and will overcome the challenges. Be well and keep learning.
