The following are the greetings based on the time of the day, and also how to greet one another on an auspicious occasion.
- བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས། tashi delek hello (on auspicious/formal occasions).
- སྔ་དྲོ་བདེ་ལེགས། ngadro delek Good morning.
- ཉིན་གུང་བདེ་ལེགས། nyingung delek Good afternoon.
- དགོང་མོ་བདེ་ལེགས། gongmo delek Good evening.
Examples of these greetings addressed to one’s teacher, རྒན་ལགས། gen lak.
- རྒན་ལགས། བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས། gen lak tashi delek Greetings teacher.
- རྒན་ལགས། སྔ་དྲོ་བདེ་ལེགས། gen lak ngadro delek Good morning teacher.
- རྒན་ལགས། ཉིན་གུང་བདེ་ལེགས། gen lak nyingung delek Good afternoon teacher.
- རྒན་ལགས། དགོང་མོ་བདེ་ལེགས། gen lak gongmo delek Good evening teacher.
The parting expression depends on if the speaker is staying or leaving.
Goodbye (speaker staying and other person leaving)
- ཕེབས་ཨ། peb a Goodbye.
- ག་ལེར་ཕེབས། ga ler peb Goodbye.
Goodbye (speaker leaving and other person staying)
- བཞུགས་ཨ། shyuk a Goodbye.
- བཞུགས་གདན་འཇག shyuk den jak Goodbye.
Example of using parting expressions with one’s teacher.
In this situation, the teacher is staying:
- རྒན་ལགས། བཞུགས་ཨ། gen lak shyuk a Goodbye teacher.
- རྒན་ལགས། བཞུགས་གདན་འཇག gen lak shyuk den jak Goodbye teacher.
In this situation, the teacher is leaving:
- རྒན་ལགས། ཕེབས་ཨ། gen lak peb a Goodbye teacher.
- རྒན་ལགས། ག་ལེར་ཕེབས། gen lak ga ler peb Goodbye teacher.
