MS Teams: What is MS Teams and Office 365?

What is Microsoft Teams and Office 365?

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is an all in one collaborative tool used to facilitate communication and group work. Teams enables UBC faculty, staff, and students to connect through web-conferencing and chat. The integration of Office 365 applications into Teams enables users to share files and simultaneously collaborate on documents in real time.

As a modern hub for education, Teams integrates communication, collaboration, and evaluation into one application. Teams streamlines workflow by allowing instructors to converse with students, distribute and grade assignments, and hold live video lectures and office hours.

While Teams is a strong platform for education, it is a common tool used by employees across the globe to communicate and collaborate. By using Teams in the classroom, students are being prepared to use the tools and resources that facilitate collaboration in the workplace.

This tool is free for active UBC students, instructors, and staff. Students must opt-in to be able to use MS Teams. To opt-in, follow the steps listed on the MS Teams Student Guide page.
