iClicker Cloud has a variety of customizable settings; however, there are some settings that work better than others. Settings will vary between different courses, but below we outline the best settings for a typical iClicker Cloud course.
There are no recommended settings for this tab, but information on it should be filled out as accurately as possible. A sample of this page is shown here.
Devices
Device Types: for the online learning environment, this should be set to Mobile Devices Only as students are not able to use iClicker remotes with iClicker Cloud remotely.
We recommend to turn attendance OFF in iClicker. This is for two reasons:
The attendance function will mark students as present once they click to join the class and will not change even if they leave immediately after. As a result, using participation points on polling questions may be a better measure of student attendance.
UBC's instance of iClicker Cloud does not have the option to export attendance data from iClicker.
If taking attendance, for remote learning, select Do not require location for attendance.
Polling
Send a picture of my screen to student devices: select Automatically whenever polling starts for students to be able to best view your polling questions when they are sent to students.
Send class results to student devices: choose the best option for your class.
Scoring: choose scoring settings to best suit your course. However, notice that marks for participation can be awarded as follows:
Under Session Participation, students can be awarded for answering a set percentage of the questions asked.
Under Session Performance, students can be awarded points for correct responses and/or
points for each question that they respond to (regardless of correctness).
Alternately, you can award points for the total polling session.
Timer: Set your timer to either cout up or count down.
Quizzing
Set a point value to be awarded for each correct response. This number can also be changed just before running a quiz, and point values for each answer can be customized after running a quiz (see iClicker Cloud: Managing and Grading Sessions).
