Piazza: Student Access to Piazza
Student Access to Piazza
Piazza is a web application used for question-and-answer discussions on assignments or other course topics. It is an external application that can be integrated with Canvas.
Piazza data is stored on servers outside of Canada therefore it is not FIPPA compliant. To protect your identity, UBC obfuscates personal data when accessing Piazza. Students are asked to use an alternate email and pseudonym on the system to protect their privacy.
- After the instructor has created the class in Piazza, students can access the class directly through the Canvas course menu.
- If this is their first-time accessing Piazza, they will be presented with enrolment information for the Piazza class as well as a form to create a Piazza account. Enter an email address and follow the instructions to create an account. Students are encouraged to use an alternate email and pseudonym on the system to protect their privacy.
- Alternately, instructors can manually enroll students in the course. As an instructor in the Piazza course, at the top click Manage Class, then Manage Enrollment, then paste student emails into the Enroll Students section and click Add Students. Note: instructors will need to collect student email addresses in order to enroll them in the class.
- Students who have been manually enrolled by the instructor, can access the class directly from the Class Link. The Class Link is located on the Manage Class page. Copy this link and share it with your class via a Canvas Announcement.
