Import a Canvas Course

You can easily import course content from another Canvas course, as long as you are enrolled as a Teacher for both.

  1. Go to the course that you want to copy in to (your new course).
  2. In you course menu (at the left) click on Settings.

  3. On the right side of the screen, click on Import Course Content.

  4. On the Import Content page, select Copy a Canvas Course from the Content Type drop down menu.

  5. Make sure that the checkbox next to Include completed courses is checked, then in the box next to Search for a course, type in the name of the course to copy. Select the course from the list, ensuring that you are selecting the course from the correct past term.
  6. Select All Content to import the full course. Note that by importing the full course, you will also import all Announcements from the original course. Choose Select Specific Content if you do not want to import some of your former content.
  7. Click Import.

The course material will proceed to import. You will need to check dates and publish status of individual elements of your course before publishing the full course.
