Canvas: Viewing Classic Quiz Logs
Viewing Canvas Classic Quiz Logs
Canvas Quizzes keep a log of student actions while they are taking a quiz, which can be viewed to investigate possible problems that the student encountered while taking the quiz.
To view a student's quiz log:
- In your Canvas course, click Quizzes in the course navigation bar on the left.
- Find the quiz for which you would like to view a quiz log and click on its name.
- At the top of the page, click on the three dots to open a menu of options.
- Click Show Student Quiz Results.
- A list will appear, showing students who have taken the quiz on the left and students who haven't taken the quiz on the right. If a student has started the quiz but not submitted it, they will still appear in the left column.
- To view an individual student's quiz log, click on their name.
- At top right of the page that opens, click View Log.
In the quiz log, you can:
- Click View Table to switch from a stream to a table view.
- Click the circular arrow to refresh the quiz log.
- See the time and date at which the student began their attempt.
- If the student took the quiz multiple times, click the number next to Attempt to switch between attempts.
- See a report of when a student viewed or answered a question and when they left and returned to the quiz page.
- Click on a blue question # to see a log of the student's response to that question, such as what they answered and if they ever changed their answer.
- Note: because of Canvas' autosave feature, some question types cause the log to incorrectly show the question being answered at the beginning of the quiz and will not show what the student actually answered. The question types affected are fill in multiple blanks, multiple answers, multiple drop-downs, and matching.
