Zoom: Invigilating an Exam with Lockdown Browser and Zoom

Invigilating an Exam with Lockdown Browser and Zoom

In order to invigilate an online exam using Respondus Lockdown Browser (RLB) on a computer, students will need to run Zoom on another device.

Respondus Lockdown Browser is a web browser application that students install, and when students run RLB, it prompts them to disconnect extra monitors and close all other computer applications before allowing students to begin the quiz. RLB is intended for use with an invigilator in the same physical space, such as a classroom, where the invigilator can see what the students are accessing in addition to their computer.

In a remote invigilation scenario, when using Respondus Lockdown Browser, the student would need to use Zoom on another device (smart phone) to allow the invigilator to watch the student. This other device needs to be propped up to view both the student and the computer, and have enough network bandwidth and power to last the exam session. This setup does not rule out that the student may have access to other devices out of the periphery of the what can be seen through Zoom.
