Summary

This module lays the foundation for the course. The GPS assignment provides an overview of tools that can be applied in a variety of circumstances while understanding Google Earth is a great way to introduce yourself to Earth observation and measurement. We will be using QGIS for many future projects so it is important that you get familiar with the interface and common operations available within the program. As we proceed, we will be building off these concepts so it is important that you understand key topics and terms. If anything is unclear, please use the discussion board to propose questions to your classmates. If you are still struggling to grasp something, please contact your instructor. If you would like to learn more about how GPS can be applied, feel free to read one of the optional readings which focus on case studies of GPS in the realm of forestry.
