Introduction

Now that we have explored the interdisciplinary world of urban forestry, examined the many ecosystem services provided by urban forests, and studied the dimensions and relationships of urban forest governance, we will apply what we have learned in this final Module on urban forest management. In this module, we will study the planning process, including land use planning, strategic urban forest management planning, and the practices of urban forest maintenance and arboriculture.

• Link your knowledge from the first three Modules to implementation through urban forest management.
• Articulate the purpose of planning and discuss the different stages of a planning process.
• Implement a strategic management perspective to urban forestry.
• Discuss and compare some of the key components of arboriculture and its relevance to urban forestry.
