In September 2019, UBC Okanagan’s declaration of Truth and Reconciliation commitments was signed, formally committing the university to delivering on five recommended actions toward reconciliation.

UBC Okanagan respectfully acknowledges the traditions and customs of the Okanagan Nation and the Syilx (Okanagan) people in whose territory the Okanagan Campus is situated.
The Okanagan Nation Alliance Links to an external site.officially welcomed UBC to the territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation in 2005 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
You can see the connection to the Syilx traditions all over campus in our bilingual street signs which are written in both English and n’syilxcen, the Story Poles in the main campus courtyard, and through the variety of events and programming provided throughout the year through Indigenous Programs & Services.
