There are a number of childcare options in the Okanagan. There may be waiting lists for some daycare facilities.

There are thousands of general dental practices and specialists across BC. You can find a dentist in your are through the BC Dental Association. Links to an external site.

Finding a Doctor

Doctors and surgeons in British Columbia are registered through the College of Physicians of BC. Finding a doctor may take some time as many offices have waiting lists. 

The Central Okanagan Find a Family Doctor Program Links to an external site. can help you get on a waiting list or find a doctor accepting new patients. 

If you do not have a family doctor, you can attend a walk-in clinic or urgent primary care centre to see a physician. MediMap Links to an external site. and Skip the Waiting Room Links to an external site. can help you identify a walk-in clinic near you. 

HealthLink BC Links to an external site. is another helpful resource for health advice and information. The website contains a wealth of health information and their phone life can be used for general health information or symptom advice. The phone line can be reached by calling 8-1-1. The line is toll-free and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Hospitals

Doctors are available for emergency services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at Kelowna General Hospital, Vernon Jubilee Hospital and Penticton Regional Hospital.

 Schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12)

Following the steps below to register your child/children for school:

  • Explore your choices
      1. Determine your child’s educational needs and objectives.  For example public vs. private or English vs. French
      2. Learn about your neighbourhood catchment school (public schools) and district programs 
      3. Identify your top school choices and check if there is space available for new students.
  • Decide between your choices
      1. Select your neighbourhood school or if you decide to apply to schools out of your neighbourhood, check and complete the application process. 
  • Enroll - Enroll your child/children according to the enrollment process for the specific school.
