Campus Supports and Services

Whether you’re adjusting to a new city, a new culture, or simply a new type of learning environment, UBC Okanagan has support services in place to postdoctoral fellows thrive and achieve academic success. Use these resources early and often to maximize your chances of success.

 

The Bookstore 

Stocks course materials as well as computer hardware and software, stationery, clothing and gifts.

Campus Security 

Responsible for the safety and security of the campus. Service is provided 24 hours a day. All security guards have training in first aid, CPR, and emergency response procedures (fire, bomb threats, and medical emergencies).

The Centre for Scholarly Communication

The Centre for Scholarly Communication (CSC) supports faculty, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff, at every stage of the research life cycle. They can provide one-on-one consultations, copyright support, writing instruction, tips on scholarly communication, and a thesis formatting service. They also host many events and workshops throughout the year.

The Centre for Teaching and Learning 

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) provides meaningful support to faculty and students. Keep an eye out for their workshops and events during the year.

Equity and Inclusion Office

The Equity and Inclusion Office works with campus partners to ensure adherence with Employment Equity (Policy #2), Discrimination & Harassment (Policy #3), and the UBC Statement on the Respectful Environment.

Food Services 

Food Services are available at a variety of outlets across campus. There are two main cafeterias: one located on the main level of the University Centre and one located on the main level of the Administration building.

Independent Investigations Office

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) serves both UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan. The IIO is dedicated to receiving and responding to complaints of sexual misconduct, discrimination and harassment under Policy SC17 and Policy SC7. The IIO is committed to conducting  a trauma-informed investigation process that is fair, impartial, and respects the rights of all parties, and also offers Alternative Resolution processes where appropriate.

Information Technology (IT Services)

IT Services provides support to students, faculty and staff for computer work stations, labs, audiovisual systems, Information Commons, wired and wireless networks, computer accounts, email, telephones, printing, and photocopying.  UBC IT also offers a variety of software programs (including Microsoft Office suite) at no cost or a reduced rate for UBC students and staff. The Psychology Clinic

Offering evidence-based psychological care for adults, the Psychology Clinic at UBC Okanagan provides a valuable service to the local community while helping train the next generation of clinical psychologists.

The UBC Okanagan Library

Access to one of the largest research collections in Canada with journal articles and books to support every subject studied on campus.

When you are able to visit the Library in person, make time to explore the diverse spaces offered, including quiet and group study spaces, bookable study rooms and collaborative workspaces. The library staff look forward to meeting you at the Library Service Desk to provide research support and to loan books and technology.

When these spaces open up don’t forget to make time to tour the Inclusive Technology Lab, the Innovation Library (located in downtown Kelowna), and the Okanagan Regional Library branch within UBC Okanagan Library.

Sexual Violence and Prevention Office (SVPRO)

UBC’s Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office (SVPRO) is a safe and confidential place for students, faculty, staff who have experienced sexual violence, regardless of where or when it took place. All gender identities, expressions and sexualities are welcome.

Wellness Centre: Online

The Wellness Center provides access to self-care modules and resources that include sessions with nurses, counsellors, and peers, wellness tips, community connections, and support.
