Course Overview

Learning Outcomes

The overall objective of this course is for you to understand the interdependence and dynamics of different forest ecosystem services and how these contribute to sustainable forest management and community livelihoods.

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Explain the concept of ecosystem services and its link with sustainable development;
  • Discuss the provisioning, regulating, cultural and supporting services obtained from the forests and their interactions;
  • Illustrate how the ecosystem services approach can enhance livelihood benefits of communities from the forests;
  • Apply an integrated approach to manage forest ecosystem services for sustainable use;
  • Evaluate a forest-based community livelihood based on its sustainability and contribution to human well-being.
