Sustainability and sustainable development have increased their importance in any national or intergovernmental initiative since the United Nations launched the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015. Thus, it is important to revisit these concepts as they form the core values of managing forest ecosystem services and community livelihoods. Tropical forests are considered to be major carbon sinks and are heralded as the lungs of the earth. Thus, this course will focus on these forests. It starts with the first module, which allows the learner to review the concept of sustainability and sustainable development and their contextual relevance in managing ecosystem services of tropical forests.
