Course Overview

Learning Outcomes

This course aims to deliver knowledge and key concepts on conservation issues in Asia. This course particularly enable students to critically analyze conservation issues and enhance their ability for effective search for solutions to conservation issue through review of policies, case studies, approaches and practices balancing conservation and development in Asia.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Identify and discuss the issues and the drivers that underlie conservation of key biodiversity, ecosystem and flagship species in Asia.
  • Analyze the regional key conservation programs, the governance systems and policies and evaluate the lessons learned from those programs.
  • Characterize the conservation counter-narratives that are relevant to the global South within a complex global paradigm.
  • Develop critical analytical thinking by conducting literature review on key selected conservation issues in Asia, critically analyzing the issues, and formulating solutions through application of best practice framework for conserving biodiversity in different settings.
