Module IV Introduction & Outcomes

Introduction

Previous modules lay strong ground for students to be able to describe, analyze and discuss about state of biodiversity, main drivers of their loss and key policies and actions implemented to address conservation issues in Asia. In this final module, you will learn about key tools to critically analyze policies and actions of ecosystems and threatened species conservation and apply those tools to critically evaluate their effectiveness through various case studies from Asia. First and foremost, you will be introduced to the concept of policy making process related to forestry followed by key steps in evidence based policy analysis with case studies from Asia learning about positive lesson learned, emerging best practices and key challenges. Next, you will learn about key tool and framework particularly DPSIR, its uses and apply it for assessment of conservation policies and actions related to ecosystem and threatened species in Asia through case studies. Moreover, using SES framework, critical analysis of threatened species and their habitat will be done through in-depth analysis of One-horned rhinoceros conservation in Nepal.  Last but not least, you will learn about conservation development in the context of climate change and disturbance through case study analysis of conservation iconic species i.e. Giant Panda in China.

Outcomes

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Describe policy making and analyze assessment of forestry/conservation policies impact through case study analysis.
  • Describe key tool and framework and apply for assessment of ecosystem and threatened species conservation policy and programs.
  • Evaluate conservation of threatened species and their habitat through analysis of One-horned rhinoceros conservation in Nepal.
  • Evaluate conservation development in the context of climate change and disturbances through analysis of Giant Panda Conservation in China.
