Course Overview

Learning Approach & Activities

This course follows a research-based, experiential learning approach. The students are expected to listen to video lectures about forest governance, public relations, and community development and answer self-assessment tests in form of multiple choice and True-or-False questions. While the self-assessment tests measure the students’ knowledge on the three main topics of this course, various assignment activities will measure the students’ capability to apply concepts and principles in real-life cases of social forestry in different countries. Assignment activities require the students to analyze and compare cases, and formulate their own public relations campaign. Forum activities intended for knowledge exchange are also included in the course and could be found at the end of the learning topics. This is intended to measure the students’ capability to interact with other students from across Southeast Asia, and will also provide the instructor with information on the students’ attitudes toward the status of social forestry in other countries. It is expected that through these set of activities in the course, the students will understand the importance of human dimension of forest governance.
