Topic Introduction
There are several international bodies, other than UN Organizations, dealing to with forests and forestry. Topic 2.2 introduces some of the major forest-related international research institutions and international non-governmental organization as well as other relevant bodies with global mandates to address forestry.
By the end of this topic, you should be able to recall the mandates and working modalities of:
- The Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR),
- The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF),
- The International Union for Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO),
- The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN),
- World Wildlife Fund (WWF),
- World Resources Institute (WRI),
- Global Environment facility (GEF),
- Green Climate Funds (GCF), and
- Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF).

Topic Summary
International forestry activities are supported by many organizations and institutions in addition to UN organizations. They range from research centers and INGO’s to funding facilities. There are a lot of complementarities among the programs of work of most of these bodies. Practically all of them - along with UN organizations discuss in Topic 2.1 - are members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests.
