Introduction

There are several intergovernmental conventions, agreements and instruments that address forests however at different levels.  This Module briefly addressed three of the most relevant inter-governmental conventions namely the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Convention to Combat Desertification (CCD).

In addition, Module III introduces The Paris Accord of UNFCCC, The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and The UN Strategic Plan for Forests 2017-2030 (UNSPF 2030).

Outcomes

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

• Recall the role envisaged for forests in the Paris Accord and UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
• Appraise the details of The UN Strategic Plan for Forests 2017-2030 (UNSPF 2030),
• Value the six Global Objectives on Forests and their implications to the sector.
