Multi-stakeholder consultations are essential for compliance with international agreements. This hands-on exercise will help students to develop teamwork and practice negotiation skills.
Caucuses comprising representatives of governments, Indigenous Peoples, NGO’s, and private sector will engage in the debate. The instructor will supervise the process and gives guidance as needed.
By the end of this topic, you should be able to:

Study the guidance given in the PPT and lecture diligently.
The students will know the subject of the consultation in advance. They should study the PPT and the accompanying lecture, then they will participate in the simulated debate online. Every student is obliged to participate in the discussion of the topic in question and engage in negotiations within his/her group as well as with other groups. Students should observe the etiquette of negotiations as instructed.
Graded Assignments
The students will be graded equally on the co-written submission of their respective group (50%) and on their individual participation in the negotiation session (50%). The total grade represents 20% of the final grade.

This Topic is intended to train the students on how to participate in negotiation, how to be a constructive team player, how to appreciate the opinions of other stakeholders, how to respond to other comments keeping the interest of their respective groups in mind while adhering to protocols of engagement.
