Welcome to our course entitled “Forest Resource Management and Protection”. This course will show key factors that impact the quantity and quality of forest resources such as tree growth, disturbances like invasive species and fire, human management, and socio-economic factors. Theories and techniques for forest resource inventory, monitoring, and yield modelling will be addressed. This course is an online 3-credit graduate-level certificate course with course content as open educational resources. It is designed for Master’s level students studying in the fields related to sustainable forest management, and for advanced-level undergraduates. The course is expected to be offered in MOOC environment with an option to issue a certificate. Students who completed graded assignments will receive a certificate for a 3-credit graduate-level course.

How to take the course?

In order for you to obtain enough knowledge and experience systemically from this course, please make sure that you follow the instructions and requirements for each module. Follow the schedule of the course, Module by Module, and step by step. Before every module, we offer some readings and PPTs that related to the course and some other necessary course materials. Please spend enough time on understanding and mastering this knowledge. Meanwhile, online discussions and assignments will help you immerse yourself into the course. There is a good opportunity to interact with other students and review their work. You need to complete the corresponding tasks and assignments on time according to the requirements every week.

How to advance in the course?

This course consists of four modules, each with different sub topics. For each weekly learning topic, before you actively engage in the weekly online discussion, you need to complete all the required readings and to view all the lecture videos. You need to complete the corresponding tasks according to the requirements. Please remember the deadlines for the assignments. If you have any questions, you can contact the instructor to help you.

What's my advice?

To succeed in this course, you should be familiar with the basic knowledge about forest ecology, silviculture, forest management and protection. We advise you to have a regular schedule per week in visiting our website. Moreover, you are suggested to share your insights and gain different perspectives about the topics.
