FIPPA requires that all information about our students remain in Canada, unless there is consent. The UBC Commissioner’s office has indicated that if use of the non-FIPPA compliant tool is required for a course, consent cannot be deemed to have been given. Students must be given an option to use an alias. If this course uses any non-FIPPA compliant cloud-based course tools that need you to create an account to use it with your digital identity, you will be reminded and given an option to use an alias. Examples of non-FIPPA compliant cloud-based course tools can be found at https://isit.arts.ubc.ca/other-tools-for-teaching-and-learning/#
