Vocabulary Roundup

On this page, you will get a chance to familiarize yourself with the vocabulary we used for this module. These practice exercises are not graded.

To change the practice method, click the dropdown menu in the bottom right corner that says "Choose a Study Mode."

The default method is "Match." However, you may want to try "Learn" to practice the words one at a time. "Test" provides you with a quiz-like format. Play around with the different modes to see what works for you.

    There are 5 matching questions. Match the correct definition to each of the following terms.

    Terms:

    1. Summon ____
    2. limiters ____
    3. phrase ____
    4. keywords ____

    Possible Definitions:

    1. UBC Library's search engine. Searches most of the library collection, returning scholarly and popular results. Found in the first tab labeled General on the home page
    2. a searchable list of published sources, specific to a discipline or topic
    3. options to refine your search and make your result list more relevant (and manageable to look through). These can include: peer-review, date range, geography, subject
    4. a concept or term that is represented by more than one word. Use quotes around the phrase to search, e.g. "climate change"
    5. the words that cover the most important concepts in your topic or question
