Welcome to Finding Sources Advanced

Welcome! This module is focused on advanced techniques for finding sources using the library. 

Over the course of this module you will encounter:

  • A vocabulary word list
  • Infographics
  • Videos
  • Vocabulary practice quizzes
  • Opportunities to share
  • Module end quiz

This module includes two worksheets: Activity Questions and Vocabulary Words. Filling out the associated worksheets will help you to keep track of what you have learned and apply your knowledge to the final quiz. To receive a certificate of completion for this module, you are required to view all pages in this module and receive a 90% or above in the final module quiz.

This module should take between 30-50 minutes to complete.

Module Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Describe what a database is and its functions;
  • Locate databases by title or using a list from the library homepage;
  • Locate journals by title using the library homepage;
  • Construct a basic search in a database using keywords, AND, phrases, synonyms and OR;
  • Apply limiters and refine searches using database features such as scholarly/peer-review, type, date range;
  • Describe the uses and limitations of Google Scholar.
