Evaluating Sources: Using Library Tools
Using Library Tools
The Library has a number of options through its search tools that can be applied initially, so your searches only return items that meet some of your evaluation criteria.
Many of your assignments will set criteria or limits for types of sources. For example, you might be asked to use at least five peer-reviewed sources, and/or specifically journal articles or books, and be limited to a certain number of non-peer-reviewed sources such as news articles. You might even be asked to use information from a certain date range, for example within the last five years.
If these are some of the criteria you need to complete your assignment, you can then make use of the limiting options available in the Library search tool, Summon, and most of our databases right from the start.
Check out this short video demonstrating how to apply limiters and filters in Summon.
This is not where your evaluation ends! Even when you have your list of results using limiters, you still need to work through the RADAR framework and other elements you are interested in, to make your final selections.
