Now that you know about what Geocaching is and its potential weather risks, you are finally ready to start your treasure-hunting adventures! 

To help you prepare for your journey, the checklist below outlines every check you need to make to be a safe Geocacher. You should be able to answer 'yes' to every question. 

Checklist

Weather Conditions

  • Precipitation: Did you check if it was is raining or snowing? Is there no forecast for a blizzard or heavy rain?
  • Visibility: Can you see your environment clearly when you are outside? Is there no forecast for heavy rain or fog? 
  • Temperature: Is it a safe temperature to be outside in the heat/cold? Are you properly equipped to be outside at this temperature? 
  • Wind: Is the wind calm? Is there no risk of dangerously high wind speeds or a tornado? 
  • Communication: Will you let someone know when and where you will be going before you leave?  

 

Essentials Checklist:

  • GPS or a Smartphone 
  • For the hot days:
    • Sunscreen
    • Water
    • Extra Water
  • For the cold days:
    • Jacket and extra layers
  • For the rainy days:
    • Umbrella
    • Waterproof shoes
    • Waterproof clothing 
  • First aid kit - a must-have
  • Flashlight - for the night-time treasure hunts
  • Snacks - because any Geocacher is a hungry Geocacher!
