Develop a Theory of Change, Part 1
Brainstorm Theory of Change options:
In your same groups of 3 as for Assignment 1, using the same change initiative you selected for Assignment 1, create three different theories of change. Present using powerpoint (next seminar) these three Theories of Change.
Begin your presentation with a quick summary of (a) the evidence-based recommendation your are mobilizing into action; (b) who has the power to implement the recommendation; (c) what is wanted by those with the power; and (d) who is your constituency.
Then, share the three Theories of Change. Each Theory of Change should clearly indicate the constituency it is targeting for the IF statement along with what you are proposing to do, the change that would be implemented by those with the power to act on the evidence in the THEN statement, followed by explaining in the BECAUSE statement why doing so gets something that is wanted by those with the power. The latter provides the rationale for why the IF/THEN statement might work.
End your presentation with a concluding slide or two that reviews the pros and cons of each ToC, along with any questions you may have about which ToC may be best for your K2A change initiative.
Presentations should be no more than 10 minutes. 10% of total Grade. Marked by PK.
Rubric
A level presentations will present three succinct theory of change options; each BECAUSE statement will provide solid reason to expect that the THEN statement is likely provided that the IF statement implemented; and the review of pros and cons reveals a depth of strategic thinking.
B level presentations will present three theories of change, but one will have a weak connection between the three clauses; is presented as an overlong "run on" sentence that is challenging for the audience to follow; and/or the analysis of the pros/cons reflects shallow strategic thinking.
C level presentations will refer to multiple theories of change that have the above weaknesses.
