BMEG 597 Internship Deliverables - August 2025

  • Due No Due Date
  • Points 5
  • Submitting a file upload

MEng students who secured an internship from May to August 2025 and are registered for the course, BMEG 597 Internship (6 credits), must upload the following internship deliverables in this section:

  1. Technical Report: The contents of the technical report should be negotiated between the site supervisor, the student and the academic supervisor. There is no formal length or formatting requirements for this report. The report should be a meaningful document, in the sense that the site supervisor wishes this report to be written. From an academic point of view, the report should describe one or more of the key engineering tasks the student undertook during their placement.

A typical report would consist of at least four main sections: an introduction describing the motivation and background for the problem, in method section describing what was done, a results section describing what was found, and a discussion, conclusions and recommendations section. There should be appropriate references to the literature, as necessary.

Students should submit their report to their site supervisor and academic supervisor at or shortly after the end of their placement. The precise deadline may be negotiated with the two supervisors.

  2. Poster (PDF): The primary purpose of preparing a poster is to gain experience in this mode of professional communication. The format and content of the poster may be negotiated by supervisors and students.
  3. Technical Brief: The technical brief should be about two pages in length and is essentially an executive summary of your technical report.
  4. Web Summary: The technical brief should be about two pages in length and is essentially an executive summary of your technical report.

Deadline for submitting internship deliverables:
August 21, 2025

Please note that students must present to their supervisor(s) by August 21.  Students who complete all their deliverables by this deadline will have their program closed and will not be assessed 2025 Winter Term 1 tuition and student fees.

If the project is confidential, students are exempted from submitting the technical report, poster, technical brief, and web summary on Canvas. However, students must still send them to their academic supervisor by August 21 and ask them to email SBME Student Services (students@sbme.ubc.ca) to confirm the receipt of these files by August 21.

More information about the BMEG 597 Internship deliverables may be found on the SBME website.

Program Closure/Completion Date:

Upon submitting all required deliverables, the academic supervisor must complete and submit a completion memo to SBME Student Services (students@sbme.ubc.ca) by August 29. Please remind the academic supervisor to complete this step after you finish submission; failure to meet the deadline may impact your program closure and graduation.

Students will have their program closed with a completion date of August 21, 2025 once the following is met:

    • Complete all course requirements by August 21, 2025.
    • Complete all internship requirements by August 21, 2025.
    • Submitted all BMEG 597 deliverables by August 21, 2025.
    • Academic supervisor submits completion memo by Aug 29, 2025.

If students are unable to meet any of the above, they will not be eligible for Fall 2025 graduation and will continue with the MEng program and have tuition fees assessed until all requirements are met.
