I have been dreaming up a course like this for years. Fortunately I was able to develop one with an extraordinary team of developers and designers. This year I am pleased to be the lead faculty for the Dialogue and Decision Making course.

Previous Course Faculty

Jane Wines, RM, BSc (honors), MSc

I am Lead and Instructor for the International Midwives Bridging Education Program at UBC. My interest in childbirth began when I decided to start a family and had my first son. I retrained as a childbirth teacher with the National Childbirth Trust. My work at NCT gave me great insight into how other parents viewed their care, especially those areas which they found lacking. I knew then that I wanted to become a midwife and went on to graduate with a first-class BSc (Hons.) in midwifery at the European Institute for Health and Medical Sciences in Surrey University (UK). After emigrating to Canada, I worked as a nurse on the labour and delivery suite at BC Women's hospital while waiting to register in BC. In 2017 I have celebrated working with South Delta families for 12 years.

I received my Bachelor of Health Sciences in Midwifery (honors) in 2005 from Laurentian University in Sudbury Ontario. As a Midwife I have had the honor and joy of providing maternity care to diverse families across South Eastern Ontario, the Fraser Valley and Victoria. I have served as Clinical Faculty since 2011 and Placement Support Coordinator since 2017. My professional responsibilities have included being a Midwifery Emergency Skills Instructor, precepting Midwifery students, serving on the Midwives Association of BC as a former board member and co-chair of the Midwives Association Aboriginal Committee- now the Committee for Indigenous Birthing for which I remain an ally member.   I am currently working towards a Master’s of Public Health Degree through the School of Public             Health and Social Policy at the University of Victoria.
