Learning Activities and Assessments
Personal Reflections: Personal reflections are short activities that are interwoven throughout each module. The goal of the personal activities are to allow you to reflect on the processes, skills, and knowledge covered in the unit. These activities are not submitted or graded. By completing them, you will be able to further integrate your learning into practice.
Knowledge Checks and Surveys: These activities are included in each module. They do not count toward your course grade. The goal of the knowledge check is to self-assess your understanding of the content covered in the unit, while surveys provide information about you and trigger your reflection about the questions being asked. For the knowledge checks you will receive feedback on the correct answers. These will help to prepare you for applying your knowledge later in the course.
Quizzes: There are quizzes at the end of each module to assess your understanding of the core concepts explored in the module. You can save your answers and return to them during the quiz. Once you have made your final submission, you will then see the correct answers.
Discussions: As part of the course, you are required to complete several discussion posts. A few will require engagement with a small subgroup of your colleagues. These are a required part of your course work, and we will monitor the board to ensure that you have spent time creating thoughtful posts and responded to your colleagues' posts, as well. To receive a participation grade for your discussion post, you will need to confirm your completion. Accuracy or quality of your postings will not be scored. You will receive full marks for completion of each part of the discussion activities.
Applying Your Knowledge Using CLAS: There are knowledge application activities included in some modules within the course. Each of these activities requires you to analyze a scenario that models the use of course tools, strategies, and processes and then apply your understanding by writing or annotating a video or audio file. These activities are instructor assessed.
Peer Review: The peer assessments apply your knowledge. Vignettes are used to demonstrate the application to course concepts. First you will complete your own written assignment and then you will be provided with a rubric to mark 3 of your peers' assignments. Please be conscious that you will have to complete the peer assessments in a timely fashion to allow your classmates time to complete their required peer assessments.
Simulation: Synchronous video-based simulations assess the cumulative knowledge and skills gained in the course. At the completion of the course, a three hour video conference will occur with your peers and your course instructor. All resources and materials will be provided ahead of the session to support working through three shared decision making simulations. Each simulation will be followed by a debrief and discussion. This activity is graded by the course instructor.
