3.5.b The SIT Tool
SIT (Safety, Inclusion, and Trust) describes essential characteristics of team functioning (3). They are essential characteristics because without all three of them team members cannot function. These three characteristics are mutually dependent and all three need your attention when working with other people.Trust is essential for people who work together. This is particularly true in health care. When you loose trust in another person, then your sense of safety and inclusion are also lost. So trust is the essential foundation to any healthy working relationship. Teams need to constantly be gauging their own, and each others', sense of safety, inclusion and trust. If either safety or inclusion are diminished then return to establishing trust with your team. From there your team can develop its sense of safety and inclusion.
