4.3c Ambiguity in Geeta's Transfer

Birth_Cycle.png

The team at the hospital is waiting for Carol to arrive so they can discuss Geeta's care.  In the meantime, they are piecing together the events that occurred at home prior to the transfer. Eleanor is using the information relayed over the phone by Carol and looking at the antenatal records for Geeta's history and risk factors. Aleya is listening to Geeta, her mother and her doula describe the progress of labour at home. Based on this information, each person creates impressions about Geeta's care and expected management after transfer. While the staff  gathers information, they each prepare to work with Carol within their own role, scope and accountability.

Each person also interprets Geeta's home birth transfer through their own values, experiences, and expectations. If Carol doesn't follow the guidelines for a home birth transfer, there will be ambiguity of information, direction, and/or roles. Because of this ambiguity, a conflict will occur.
