3.5.i Florence's Case: Closing the Loop
Florence has a normal, uncomplicated birth with her family around her. A healthy 7 pound boy is born. Everyone is thrilled to welcome the new baby boy into the family. Florence feels very positive about her experience.
Afterwards, Riann phones Tasmin to close the loop about the outcome of care, to share the birth details, and to convey that both mother and baby are doing well. Riann also plans to speak with Tasmin about the tensions that initially occurred in the hospital between Florence, her family and herself. Riann feels that Tasmin should have done a better job informing Florence of reasons why she may not be able to provide her with a home birth. And she is also concerned that Florence felt disappointed about not meeting her before the birth. Riann feels Tasmin made some promises to Florence that she could not keep, and Riann thinks this was a mistake. She realizes that confronting Tasmin about this may be a difficult conversation.
Riann knows to use the ABCD and DEAR approaches to guide the conversation. She prepares herself for starting this conversation.
