5.2.b Instructions for Preparing for the Simulations

There will be three simulations, each with a different focus on the interprofessional shared decision making process. After each simulation, a debrief and a discussion will follow about some of the issues raised during the simulations.

Before the three simulations, you will be assigned character roles for the simulations. The focus and story line of the simulations will be provided ahead of time to help you prepare for your role play. You will prepare by reviewing the key tools applied to the case.  You will also prepare for your performance by thinking about what your character would do in the situation described. Use the background information provided to formulate your character's attributes and likely reactions in the scenarios.

You are expected to demonstrate all the tools demonstrated in a case. Please have the tools that you need for the simulations available to you on the day of the simulations. You are able to use them as a reference during the simulations if you need.

You and your peers will proceed through the simulation while the rest of your classmates watch and identify what course tools you are using. They will make note to later comment on when, or how, the tools were applied. Checklists have been developed for them to use during your simulations.

At the end of the simulation, during the debrief, we will use the checklists to debrief the simulation. The debrief will occur as a large group, including the performers and the observers.

You will receive full participation marks for your participation in the simulations. Participation includes attending the simulations and participating in all the activities .
