Applying your Knowledge: Team Debrief Using ABCD and Quality Criteria
In this assessment you will log written posts to evaluate two health care providers conducting a telephone debrief. You will identify when team functioning skills are modeled and post your observations by indicating this in the time frames in the audio file.
This activity is graded by your instructor. You will be assessed on the accuracy of your responses. Video or Audio Activities contribute 20% to your overall course mark.
Instructions:
A team debrief and difficult conversation will be presented. Riann phones Tasmin to debrief Florence's case. To conduct their debrief, they use tools covered in this course. Recall that during a team debrief, each member describes their impressions of the impact of people’s contributions and actions, and how it affected the team’s functioning. According to the 6 criteria to measure quality, a debrief should occur around topics of safety, effectiveness, timeliness, efficiency, equity, and providing person-centered care. For this activity, you will identify which debrief topics are discussed as well as when a ABCD tool is being used. Post in the audio timeline when you hear the providers use these tools.
Review these resources prior to doing this assignment:
- Review the 6 Criteria of a quality debrief found in Module 2 under team debriefs
- Review the ABCD and DEAR strategy
Complete this activity by:
- Identify times to the timeline when you hear the providers model each aspect of the ABCD. For each post you will need to label when you heard the step occur, such as by writing out “Attend from ABCD".
- Post in the timeline when you hear the providers apply 2 of the 6 criteria of a quality debrief.
- Use these time codes for you follow the instructions. From the time codes provided select which aspect of ABCD is used, or which of the 2 criteria for a quality debrief is being demonstrated in the timeline.
