Zoom: Schedule Meetings through Canvas
Schedule Zoom Meetings through Canvas
The primary purpose of having Zoom in Canvas is to be able to schedule meetings. Students and instructors still need to download a separate Zoom application.
- In your course menu, click Zoom.
- In the Zoom page that appears, at the top right, click Schedule a New Meeting.
- In the form page that opens, under Schedule a Meeting, edit or accept the default topic.
- Optionally, enter a description.
- Enter a date, time, duration, verify the time zone, and click the checkbox if you want to make it a recurring meeting.
- You may optionally require registration. Scheduling a meeting that requires registration will allow participants register with their e-mail, name, other questions, and custom questions.
- UBC requires that all Zoom meetings include a Passcode. You can set your own numeric passcode.
- You can optionally set a waiting room. Students will join Zoom into a waiting room, and you must admit each student to the session.
- You can change video default to either on or off by default, and allow telephone, computer audio or both types of audio available.
- Select other options as desired (enable the option for students to join before the host, mute participants on entry, use your personal meeting ID, only allow authenticated users to join, and record the meeting automatically). To set the meeting to automatically record when you start it, select the box next to Record the meeting automatically.
- If you want your TA or someone else to help you as host, beside Alternative Hosts, enter the email they use on their copy of Zoom (this must be a ubc.ca email address, provisioned to a licensed account by IT). Important: Should you wish for TAs to schedule course activities in Zoom, it is recommended that they add you as an Alternate Host. Otherwise only the creator of the Zoom meeting can start and host the meeting.
- When finished, click Save.
- Your newly scheduled meeting details page will appear. You can add it to your calendar by clicking your choice of Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, Yahoo Calendar.
- Beside Invite Attendees, you can copy and send the URL to your attendees. You may wish to paste this information into a Canvas Announcement for your students.
- When it is time to start the meeting, near the bottom of the page you can click Start this Meeting.
- At the very bottom of the page, you can import polls to your Zoom meeting using a CSV file.
