The traditional blended learning approach is the thoughtful integration of face-to-face teaching and online learning. In this workshop, our approach is to consider blended learning from a different perspective, with the combination of synchronous (in real time) and asynchronous (in deferred time) teaching.
The thoughtful integration of those two modalities is the core element of an online blended learning format.
By definition, blended learning is the use of traditional classroom teaching methods together with the use of online learning for the same students studying the same content in the same course. It is a “thoughtful fusion of face-to-face and online learning experiences”.

Our Approach: Blended Learning From a Different Lens
What to expect from us? We will be sending announcements prior to each day with a recap of the previous day's activities and your contributions to the discussions. We will be involved in the discussions, but depending on the number of posts, we will not be able to respond to all of your posts individually. We encourage you, however, to respond to your peers and to keep the conversation going by asking questions, sharing personal examples and/or recommending additional resources.
Workshop Structure
- Theme / Guiding Question. To acquaint you with that theme.
- Learning Objectives. Read through the learning objectives for that day.
- Readings & Resources. We have curated a small number of informative readings and resources.
- Activities. Each day, we offer you activities and discussions that are meant to support integration of the learning into your own teaching context.
How to monitor your progress?
When you have completed all the readings for each day, make sure to check the "Mark as Done" option on the top right-hand corner of a page.
This is the way to track and monitor your progress in this workshop.
Your Project
Each day of this course will involve a small project that will directly aid in the alignment of your course to the online blended learning approach.
You will work on one aspect of your course each day (Days 1-4) and on Day 5, you will have a chance to share your work with four peers and hear their feedback and ideas.
