Welcome to Identity Matters: Connecting Power, Privilege and Bias to Anti-Racism Work! This open Canvas module is the asynchronous portion of the blended workshop, which concludes with a synchronous workshop.  We estimate the online module to take most participants approximately 2 hours to complete.

The purpose of the module is to introduce foundational concepts, such as identities, power, and privilege with an aim to build a strong foundation to support your learning in anti-racism and its application to teaching and learning. You will be presented with self-reflective exercises, informative activities and videos to help you explore and consider how identities, power and privilege intersect with your teaching pedagogy and your personal, professional, and academic lives. The module does not cover racism per se; it is in the synchronous session, where you will learn to connect the concepts learned in this module with the issues of racism.

Throughout the module, we use this icon to mark moments where we invite you to reflect on a concept, your course, or yourself. We hope these questions can help spark your thinking in new and creative directions.

This module has been adapted from Module 1: Power, Privilege and Bias in Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in Teaching and Learning: Introductory Course in Five Modules.
